frequently asked questions

How is Hydrogen Prospect going to play a role in the energy transition?

By helping to build a robust low carbon hydrogen storage market. At Hydrogen Prospect, we believe that the scaled up hydrogen economy integrated across the entire value chain will offer a competitive cost per unit of energy, when compared to fossil fuels energy prices.

Who is backing Hydrogen Prospect?

The startup is privately owned and self-funded, currently securing financing from outside institutions.

What is Hydrogen Prospect’s specific plan of action?

We are focused on the hydrogen midstream business, specifically the storage of low carbon hydrogen. Positioned in between the suppliers of hydrogen and the hydrogen demand centers, acting as a buffer balancing market oversupply and overdemand of hydrogen on multiple scales. We are in the business of guiding our customers through the development and deployment of large-scale, long-term, fast-cycle underground hydrogen storage (>1000 metric tons scale), and creating a new market of low carbon hydrogen Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS). And we are on a MISSION!

Where is Hydrogen Prospect going to operate?

For the moment, the focus of deploying the first underground storage for our client is the northern Netherlands and north-western Germany. The choice of geographical selection is driven by two primary reasons: favorable subsurface geology and proximity to the most mature hydrogen markets in the world, both critical to achieving the technical and commercial objectives.

What is the growth potential for hydrogen storage?

The initial geographical regions will prove the concept of the hydrogen storage market at scale. The hydrogen storage could grow to other markets across the continent in the future.

When is Hydrogen Prospect going to complete the first implementation of the project?

The first large-scale underground hydrogen storage, operating and production-ready in the Netherlands/NW Germany, could be commissioned by 2028, contingent on our clients securing the funding, obtaining required permits, and market readiness.

Who is behind the company?

The idea for the company came up from the concerns about the pace of the energy transition shared by two oil-major employees, who later founded the company, Piotrek Lewandowski and Piotr Angiel. Both have wealth of experience leading global large-scale energy projects. The team was complimented by Maciej Lewandowski, Piotr Domaszczynski, and Piotr Trzaska, who are proven experts in their fields the top with global experience in finance, surface engineering, and safety…. Read more.

What is Hydrogen Prospect’s business model?

The company provides consulting and project development services in hydrogen Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) market. Hydrogen Prospect will generate profits from providing services related to development and operating an underground hydrogen storage. The primary customer base for the storage business are the companies who produce low carbon hydrogen and need to store its oversupply of hydrogen in large quantities, and the companies who are utility scale consumers of hydrogen.

What are the benefits of deploying large-scale hydrogen storage?

The EU energy market has been continuously pressured by the natural gas supply chain to meet the energy demand in the past years. Recent natural gas supply chain disruptions and shortages in the EU have created uncertainty around security of energy commodities, which led to volatile energy pricing. Creating a large-scale hydrogen storage could serve the critical role in providing the added energy security and a clean energy choice for the local communities and industries located in the. Hydrogen value chain is an ideal replacement that will fill in the void left after closing of the natural gas fields in the Netherlands. Having a large-scale hydrogen storage is aligned with the ambitions to meet carbon neutrality in the region and the EU.
